Enabling Gmail Read Receipt
Google only allows the option to enable Gmail read receipt for admin accounts. This means that only Gmail accounts that have been created for business purposes and are related to an organization can only enable this service. This means that people with “@gmail.com” can not access this option.
For people with a G-Suite account on Gmail:
- Log in to it using the Gmail app, Once logged in, to enable read receipt to compose a new email by clicking on the Compose button.
- A new window for creating your email will now open. In this window, click on the downward arrow button next to the Trash icon. In case of a newer version, select the Triple dot icon.
- A small sidebar will open containing different options for the current email. Select Request read receipt and enable it.
- Now, the sent email will contain the time and date when the recipient opens your email.
Read Receipt Limitations
Gmail read receipt has some limitations as you only get the receipt if the recipient wishes for you to see it. They get a confirmation message which confirms whether or not they want the sender to be notified.
Moreover, read receipt Gmail has to be manually enabled for each email which makes it quite a hassle and it is therefore recommended to you to use third-party software to facilitate you in enabling read receipt on Gmail.
